康宁公司日前宣布，公司将投资大约8亿美元，在中国建设新的LCD玻璃基板工厂。在北京市政府的支持下，康宁新LCD玻璃基板工厂位于北京经济技术开发区内的北京数字电视产业园。工厂将具备8.5代玻璃基板的熔炉和后段加工生产能力。康宁计划于今年9月举行工厂奠基典礼，预计2012年上半年投入生产。Corning recently announced that it would invest approximately US$800 million in a new LCD glass substrate plant in China. With support from the Beijing municipal government, the plant will be located in the Beijing Digital TV Industry Park within the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area. It will have Gen 8.5 glass substrate melting and finishing capabilities. Corning plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony in September this year, with production expected to begin in the first half of 2012.

The company previously announced the start of an expansion at its LCD glass plant in Taichung, Taiwan, and the reactivation of idled capacity at its Shizuoka glass substrate plant in Japan to produce Gorilla Glass for a variety of applications. Further expansion of the Taichung plant is planned for 2012.
